1. Uniform of the Traffic Police
When openly patrolling and controlling traffic, Traffic Police officers must wear the Police uniform, the People's Public Security serial number, and a cross belt as prescribed by law and the Ministry of Public Security. In evening, nighttime, or daytime conditions with foggy weather or adverse weather conditions that limit visibility, reflective vests must be worn.

Thus, based on the above regulations, the attire of the traffic police when patrolling and controlling traffic is as follows:

Under what circumstances can traffic police stop vehicles?
According to Clause 1, Article 16 of Circular 32/2023/TT-BCA, provisions on four cases where Traffic Police can stop vehicles when patrolling and controlling traffic according to the plan are as follows:
- Directly discovering or through the use of technical equipment gathering evidence of violations of road traffic laws and other legal violations;
- Executing orders, plans for the general inspection of vehicles to ensure road traffic order and safety, social order; plans for patrolling, controlling, and handling violations under thematic subjects to ensure road traffic order and safety, social order issued by the competent authority;
- Receiving written requests from the Head or Deputy Head of an investigative agency; written requests from relevant functional agencies to stop vehicles for inspection to serve the work of ensuring security, order; combating crime; preventing natural disasters, fires, explosions; preventing epidemics; rescue, relief, and other legal violations. Such written requests must specify the time, road route, vehicle to be stopped for inspection, handling, and the participating coordinating force;
- Receiving reports, feedback, recommendations, and accusations from organizations or individuals regarding legal violations of people and means participating in road traffic.
What is the procedure for the traffic police to conduct inspections?
According to the provisions of Article 18 of Circular 32/2023/TT-BCA, the process of traffic police conducting inspections is carried out as follows:
Step 1: Request the driver to take safety measures and exit the vehicle.
Step 2: Perform a salute according to the Public Security Orders (except in cases where it is known in advance that the person has criminal behavior, caught in the act, or has a wanted notice). When contacting individuals with legal violations, Traffic Police officers must maintain proper posture, decorum, and appropriate conduct.
Step 3: Inform the driver and passengers on the vehicle of the reason for the inspection; request the driver to present relevant documents or information of related documents in an electronic identity account.
Step 4: Conduct inspection of the contents specified in Clause 2, Article 12 of Circular 32/2023/TT-BCA
- Inspect relevant documents related to the person and vehicle.
- Inspect conditions for participating in traffic by the vehicle.
- Inspect compliance with legal regulations on road transport safety.
- Inspect other related contents as specified by law.
For vehicles carrying ten or more passengers, vehicles with dimensions equivalent to vehicles carrying ten or more passengers, inspections must be conducted directly in the passenger compartment, and inspection results must be announced.
Step 5: End the inspection
Traffic Police officers report the inspection results to the Team Leader, inform the driver and passengers of the inspection results, any violations (if any), and the handling measures.
*Note:
- When there is a basis to believe that the person, vehicle, or objects conceal evidence, means, or documents used for administrative violations, an inspection of the person, vehicle, and objects shall be conducted in accordance with the law on handling administrative violations.
- If signs of a crime are detected, follow the provisions of the criminal procedure law.
