1. What is the data included in the Vietnam National Geographic Baseline Database?

According to Clause 1, Article 10 of Decree 27/2019/ND-CP, the national geographic database is a set of geographical background data built into the national coordinate system and the national elevation system according to national standards and technical regulations for uniform use throughout the country, including the following component data:

- Geodetic base data is data about coordinate points and altitudes used in the process of measuring, acquiring, and processing geographical data;

- Topographic data is height and depth data describing the shape and features of the Earth's surface, including elevation points, depth points, contour lines connecting points with the same elevation value, lines describing topographic features, and special terrain types;

- Hydrological data is data about the system of rivers, streams, canals, ditches, seas, lakes, ponds, lagoons, water sources, water coastlines, and other hydrological objects;

- Population data is data about residential areas and works related to population, including urban residential areas, rural residential areas, industrial zones, specific functional areas, and other residential areas, other civil works, economic, cultural, and social facilities;

- Traffic data is data about the traffic network and traffic-related works, including the system of roads, railways, airways, waterways, bridges, tunnels, ports, railway stations, and other traffic works;

- National border data and administrative boundaries include national border data and administrative boundary data.

National border data means data on national borders, the system of national landmarks; baselines, baselines used to calculate the width of Vietnam's territorial sea, national border features, and geographical features related to the representation of national borders on land and at sea.

Administrative boundary data means data on administrative boundaries at all levels, the system of administrative boundary markers; data on geographical features related to the representation of administrative boundaries at all levels;

- Surface cover data is data about the current cover status of the Earth's surface, including vegetation cover, land use layer, water surface layer, and other land cover.

2. What are the methods to update the Vietnam national geographic database?

The Vietnam national geographic base database is updated by the following methods:

- The updating of the national geographic database at scales of 1:2,000 and 1:5,000 is done through the correction and addition of geographical features with fluctuations by means of surveying and mapping;

- Updating the national geographic database at 1:10,000 scale and smaller scale is done by editing dynamic objects updated from the geodatabase at a larger scale, a new version; through the adjustment and supplementation of geographical features with fluctuations by means of measurement and cartography;

- Depending on the level of volatility, the updating of the national geographic database is carried out according to each component, component data group, or region. In the event that more than 40% of the geographical objects in the area are changed, a new national geographic database shall be established for the entire region;

- When the national geographic base database is updated, the corresponding national topographic map is updated simultaneously.
