Criteria for membership of the Vietnam Writers' Association: Vietnamese citizens are writers working in the field of Vietnamese literature, taking literary creation activities for the benefit of the Vietnamese nation, whose published works are valuable (have at least 02 separately published works that are well-reviewed).
Official member of the Vietnam Writers' Association: Vietnamese citizens are qualified writers who agree to the Association's Charter, voluntarily join the Association, and are considered and recognized by the Association's Executive Board as an official member of the Association.

- Being invested by the Association, receiving awards in accordance with the Association's regulations, and requesting the Association to protect the right to practice and copyright in accordance with the law and the Association's Charter.
- Being provided with information related to the Association's activities by the Association, to participate in professional activities organized by the Association.
- Participating in discussions and deciding on the Association's working policies according to the Association's regulations; to proposals and opinions to competent agencies on issues related to the field of operation of the Association.
- Attending the General Meeting, standing for election, nominating and electing agencies, leadership positions, and the Association's Inspection Committee in accordance with the Association's regulations.
- Being allowed to introduce new members.
- Being rewarded according to the regulations of the Association.
- Being granted a membership card in the Association.
- Leaving the Association when it is deemed that it is impossible to continue being a member.

- Contributing actively, responsibly, and specifically to the process of building and developing Vietnamese literature through literary creation, research, criticism, and translation activities.
- Strictly abiding by the guidelines and lines of the Party, policies, and laws of the State; abide by the Association's charter and regulations. Protecting the reputation of the Association, do not act on behalf of the Association in transactional relationships, unless assigned in writing by the Association's leaders.
- Participating in the activities of the Association; uniting and cooperating with other members to build a strong association.
- Discovering and fostering young creative forces.
- Implementing the information and reporting regime in accordance with the Association's regulations.
- Paying membership fees in full and on time according to the Association's regulations.

- Vietnamese citizens who meet the conditions specified in Article 8 of this Charter to join the Association must make an application to join the Association, have a Biography (according to the form prescribed by the Association's Executive Board), a curriculum vitae (certified by the agency or government of the place of residence), be introduced by 02 (two) members of the Association, complete the registration procedure, and be considered and accepted by the Executive Board;
- Based on the prescribed standards, the Association's Executive Board considers admission of members on the basis of the proposals of the professional councils, functional boards, and branches.
