Standards for forensic technical assessors in Vietnam are specified in Circular 32/2022/TT-BCA dated September 12, 2022.

According to Article 3 of Circular 32/2022/TT-BCA, the technical assessors include:
- Fingerprint assessor;
- Mechanical trace assessor;
- Firearms and ammunition assessor;
- Document assessor;
- Fire and explosion assessor;
- Technical assessor;
- Audio assessor;
- Biological assessor;
- Chemical assessor;
- Digital and electronic assessor.
According to Article 4 of Circular 32/2022/TT-BCA, the standards for forensic technical assessors in Vietnam, as specified in Clause 1 of Article 7 of the Law on judicial expertise 2012, are as follows:
- Must be a professional officer of the Police, a military officer in active service, or a civil servant of the Supreme People's Procuracy;
- Must have good health and moral qualities;
- Must have a university degree or higher education degree from the national education system or a foreign university degree recognized by international treaties signed by the Minister of Education and Training or proposed for approval by the competent authority. To be specific:
+ Fingerprint assessors: must belong to one of the following fields: security and social order; law; computer science and information technology; chemistry; chemical engineering; chemical engineering technology; chemical education; chemical technical command; technical command and management.
+ Mechanical trace assessors: must belong to one of the following fields: security and social order; law; mechanical engineering and mechanical technology; mechanical engineering technology; computer science and information technology; technical command and management.
+ Firearms and ammunition assessors: must belong to one of the following fields: security and social order; law; computer science and information technology; mechanical engineering and mechanical technology; mechanical engineering technology; technical command and management; technical command of engineering troops.
+ Document assessor: must belong to one of the following fields: security and social order; law; Vietnamese language, literature, and culture; foreign language, literature, and culture; computer science and information technology; fine arts; applied fine arts; chemistry; chemical engineering technology; chemical education; chemical technical command; printing engineering; printing engineering technology; technical command and management.
+ Fire and explosion assessors: must belong to one of the following fields: electrical, electronic, and telecommunications engineering technology; electrical, electronic, and telecommunications engineering; chemistry; chemical engineering technology; chemical education; fire fighting and rescue; technical command and management; technical command of engineering troops; technical command of chemical engineering; police engineering.
+ Technical assessors: must belong to one of the following fields: electrical, electronic, and telecommunications engineering technology; electrical, electronic, and telecommunications engineering; computer science and information technology; mechanical engineering and mechanical technology; mechanical engineering technology; construction engineering; transportation construction engineering; fire fighting and rescue; technical command and management; police engineering.
+ Audio assessors: must belong to one of the following fields: computer science and information technology; electrical, electronic, and telecommunications engineering technology; electrical, electronic, and telecommunications engineering; Vietnamese language, literature, and culture; foreign language, literature, and culture; linguistics; technical command and management; police engineering.
+ Biological assessors: must belong to one of the following fields: biology; applied biology; medicine; medical engineering; biology education; biotechnology.
+ Chemical assessors: must belong to one of the following fields: pharmaceuticals; chemistry; chemical engineering technology; chemical engineering; environmental engineering technology; food technology; chemical education; geology; chemical technical command.
+ Digital and electronic assessors: must belong to one of the following fields: electrical, electronic, and telecommunications engineering technology; electrical, electronic, and telecommunications engineering; computer science and information technology; technical command and management; or police engineering.
- Must have directly assisted in appraisal activities in forensic technical appraisal organizations in the specialized field for a minimum of 3 years (excluding the time spent in training during working hours) after obtaining a university degree or higher in the proposed field for assessor appointment.
- Must have a certificate of training or professional development in appraisal expertise in the proposed field issued by the Institute of Forensic Science or a foreign forensic science institution recognized in Vietnam according to the regulations of educational law and international treaties, as signed by the Minister of Education and Training or proposed for approval by the competent authority.
