Procedures for registering for the high school graduation exam on May 20, 2021 in Vietnam

On May 20, 2021, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam issued ​Decision 1584/QD-BGDDT on the announcement of administrative procedures to replace the field of examinations and enrollment within the scope of management functions of the Ministry of Education and Training. Thus, the regulation on procedures for registering for the high school graduation exam is a noteworthy content.

Conditions for registering for the high school graduation exam in Vietnam

- For people who have completed high school in the year the exam is held:

  • Evaluation in grade 12 results in conduct rank average or higher, and academic performance is not classified as poor.
  • There is no requirement for conduct classification for those who are not subject to conduct classification and for those who study in the form of guided self-study in the continuing education program.

- For people who have completed high school but have not taken the exam or have taken the exam but have not graduated from high school in previous years:

  • Have a secondary school diploma.
  • Evaluation in grade 12 results in conduct rank average or higher, and academic performance is not classified as poor.
  • In case you are not eligible to take the exam in previous years due to poor academic performance in grade 12, you must register and take the exam at the end of the school year for some subjects with an average score of less than 5 points (at the high school where the 12th grade is or the high school where the DDT is registered), and at the same time ensure that when taking the test to recalculate the average score for the year, you are eligible to take the exam on academic ranking.
  • In case you are not eligible to take the exam in previous years due to poor conduct in grade 12, you must have confirmation from the People's Committee of the commune where you reside that you comply with local laws and regulations to be confirmed by the high school where the 12th grade student is eligible to take the conduct test.

- For people who already have a secondary school diploma, take the exam to get the results as a basis for applying for admission: they must ensure that they have studied and passed the exam to meet the requirements of a sufficient amount of high school cultural knowledge according to the Education Law and current guiding documents.

Note, candidates must register for the exam and submit all documents on time. The time to submit exam registration documents is specified in the instructions for organizing the annual high school graduation exam of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Procedure for registering for the exam in Vietnam

- Candidates register to take the exam according to the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.

- Submit application at the high school or exam registration place according to regulations.

- The principal of the high school or the head of the unit where the exam is registered is responsible for:

  • Instruct candidates to register for the exam, collect the exam registration form, enter information about candidates registering for the exam, and enter information about candidates' academic results.
  • Organize the review of exam registration documents.
  • Publicly notify cases of ineligibility to take the exam according to regulations (no later than 15 days before the exam date).
  • Manage exam registration documents and transfer exam registration documents and data to the Department of Education and Training.

- Candidates receive the exam notice at the place where they submit their exam registration documents or view it on the website using the account provided.

Exam registration documents

(1) For people who have completed high school in the year the exam is held:

  • 02 identical exam registration forms;
  • Original or copy of high school transcripts or high school continuing education transcripts or test sheets of students in the form of self-study for continuing education issued by the high school Principal;
  • Valid certificates to enjoy priority and incentive regimes (if any);
  • A copy of the permanent residence registration book to enjoy priority regimes related to the place of permanent residence registration;
  • 02 photos sized 4x6 cm;

(2) For people who have completed high school but have not taken the exam or have taken the exam but have not graduated from high school in previous years: In addition to the application components mentioned in Section (1), there are also:

  • Confirmation from the high school where the candidate studied in grade 12 or where the candidate registered to take the exam on academic performance for students ranked poor in academic performance;
  • Copy of Secondary School Diploma;
  • Certificate of reserved scores (if any) was confirmed by the Principal of the high school where the candidate took the exam last year.

(3) For candidates who have graduated from high school:

  • 02 identical exam registration forms;
  • Copy of high school or intermediate diploma;
  • 02 photos sized 4x6 cm;
  • 02 stamped envelopes clearly stating the candidate's contact address

(4) For candidates who have graduated from intermediate school:

  • 02 identical exam registration forms;
  • 02 photos sized 4x6 cm;
  • Copy of Secondary School Diploma;
  • Copy of high school diploma;
  • Copy of study book or transcript of high school cultural subjects according to the provisions of the Education Law and current guiding documents.

Decision 1584/QD-BGDDT takes effect on May 20, 2021.
