The General Department Office is organized into 6 rooms; the Department of Data Collection and Application of Statistical Information Technology is organized into 4 departments and 4 Centers.
The Department of Data Collection and Application of Statistical Information Technology has legal status, its own seal, a headquarters, and can open an account at the State Treasury according to the provisions of law.
(ii) Local statistical agency
- Department of Statistics in provinces and centrally run cities (collectively referred to as Provincial Department of Statistics) under the General Statistics Office.
The Provincial Statistics Department is organized into 5 divisions.
- Statistics Departments in districts, towns, and cities of the province; Regional Statistics Branches (collectively referred to as District Statistics Branches) belong to the Provincial Statistics Department.
Provincial Statistics Department and District Statistics Department have their own legal status and seal, have an office, and can open an account at the State Treasury according to the provisions of law.

The leadership of the General Statistics Office is specified in Article 4 of Decision 10/2020/QD-TTg as follows:
- The General Statistics Office has a General Director and no more than 04 Deputy General Directors.
- The Director General and Deputy Director General are appointed, dismissed, and re-appointed by the Minister of Planning and Investment according to the provisions of the law.
The Director General is the head of the General Statistics Office, responsible to the Minister of Planning and Investment and to the law for all activities of the General Statistics Office. The Deputy General Directors are responsible before the General Director and the law for their assigned tasks.
The Director General regulates the functions, tasks, powers, and organizational structure of units under the General Statistics Office; appoints, dismisses, resigns, and suspends the heads and deputies of the heads of units under the General Statistics Office according to the provisions of law and decentralization of the Minister of Planning and Investment.
