Vietnam: Adding HIV/AIDS drugs to the list of drugs covered by health insurance

On November 26, 2020, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam issued the Circular No. 20/2020/TT-BYT amending and supplementing certain articles of the Circular No. 30/2018/TT-BYT adopting the schedule, payment rates, conditions of modern drugs, biologicals, radiopharmaceuticals and tracers under health insurance policyholders’ received coverage.

According to the Circular No. 20/2020/TT-BYT, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam has supplemented Tenofovir + lamivudin + dolutegravir to the subheading 6.3.1 - HIV/AIDS drugs of the heading 6.3 - Antiviral drugs of Section 6 - Antiparasitic and disinfectant drugs in Appendix 01 - The Schedule of modern drugs and biologicals under health insurance policyholders’ coverage annexed to the Circular No. 30/2018/TT-BYT.

Note: For HIV/AIDS treatment purposes, drugs are dispensed at commune-level healthcare stations according to HIV/AIDS control, medical treatment and care instructions of the Ministry of Health.

Moreover, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam also added the list of radiopharmaceuticals and tracers covered by health insurance is provided in the Appendix 02 enclosed with Circular No. 30/2018/TT-BYT to the list of drugs prepared by the medical examination and treatment establishment and paid for by the Health Insurance Fund.
