Vietnam: 05 HIV prevention interventions

Recently, the National Assembly of Vietnam has officially approved the Law on amendments to the Law on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS 2020.

According to Clause 7 Article 1 of the Law on amendments to the Law on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS 2020 of Vietnam, 05 HIV prevention interventions include:

- Distribute and provide instructions for use of condoms;

- Distribute and provide instructions for use of clean needles and syringes;

- Use pre-exposure prophylaxis with antiretroviral medicines;

- Provide opioid replacement treatment;

- Implement other appropriate HIV prevention interventions.

The following entities are given priority to HIV prevention interventions: HIV-positive persons; drug users; prostitutes; people having same-sex relationship; transgender people; spouses and other family members of HIV-positive persons; people having sexual relationship with HIV-positive persons; persons infected with sexually transmitted diseases; mobile populations; convicts, persons held in detention, and persons held in custody at reform schools, correctional institutions or rehabilitation centers.
