the Government of Vietnam has just signed and promulgated Decree 26/2017/ND-CP stipulating the functions, tasks, powers, and organizational structure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The organizational structure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs currently consists of 31 units and organizations (previously 32 units). Specifically:
- 25 organizations assist the Minister of Foreign Affairs in performing state management functions;- 5 public service providers under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;- The Vietnamese representative offices abroad established by the Government of Vietnam and directly managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The changes in the organizational structure are as follows:
- Abolish the Department of Diplomatic Services;- Rename the West Asia - Africa Department to the Middle East - Africa Department.
Additionally, new tasks and authorities of the Ministry have been added regarding presiding over and cooperating with agencies and organizations in formulating and implementing Vietnam's policies at multilateral forums developing international law.
Decree 26/2017/ND-CP takes effect from March 14, 2017, replacing Decree 58/2013/ND-CP.
