Here are notable new contents in the Law on Exit, Entry of Vietnamese Citizens 2019, passed by the National Assembly on November 22, 2019

To be specific, Article 17 of the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens stipulates 04 subjects eligible for reissuance of a regular passport through expedited procedures, including:
“1. Persons who have lost their regular passports while abroad and wish to return home immediately.
2. Persons who have a written deportation decision from the competent authority of the host country but do not possess a passport.
3. Persons who must return to Vietnam under an international treaty or international agreement on repatriation.
4. Persons issued regular passports for reasons of national defense or security.”
If a Vietnamese citizen abroad loses their passport and wishes to return home immediately, they should submit a Lost Passport Report form and an Application form according to the prescribed template after filling in all required information, 02 portrait photos, and present identification documents (if any) to the Vietnamese representative office abroad.
Within 02 working days from the date of receiving the request, the Vietnamese representative office abroad will review, decide on the issuance of the passport, hand over the result to the applicant, and provide written notification to the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security in cases where the national database on entry and exit of Vietnamese citizens has not been connected.
