Here is one of the regulations for candidates wishing to apply to public security schools according to current regulations. Candidates are only allowed to participate in the admissions to the schools under the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam if they meet the BMI from 17.5 to below 25.
BMI (Body Mass Index) or body mass index is a body index used by doctors and health experts to determine whether a person is obese, overweight, or underweight. This index is calculated by dividing a person's weight by the square of their height.
To determine whether a person with a disease is obese or undernourished, the following BMI indices can be referred to:

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Public Security, one of the conditions for applying to police schools is candidates must achieve a BMI from 17.5 to under 25. Candidates with a BMI of 25 or higher (overweight people) and below 17.5 (underweight people) will be eliminated, or in other words, candidates who are too fat or too thin will not be admitted. Additionally, height and weight standards are combined as follows:
- Male: Height from 1.64m or more, weight from 48 kg or more.
- Female: Height from 1.58m or more, weight from 45 kg or more.
For students in Region 1 (including students enjoying priority policies in enrollment according to Region 1 or students who have had permanent residence for 5 years in Region 1), and students who are ethnic minorities, the height and weight standards will be reduced by 2 cm and 2 kg respectively for each gender.
