Weather Forecasting Activities Not in Compliance with Permit Can Be Fined Up to 20 Million Dong

This is the new penalty stipulated in Decree 84/2017/ND-CP amending and supplementing Decree 173/2013/ND-CP on administrative penalties in the fields of hydrometeorology, surveying, and cartography.

The penalties for violations of the regulations on meteorological and hydrological forecasting and warning operation permits are as follows, ranging from VND 15 to 20 million:

- Operating not in accordance with the contents stated in the permit;- Altering or erasing to distort the content of the permit;- Conducting meteorological and hydrological forecasting and warning operations when the permit has expired.

In case of the above-mentioned violations, additional penalties may be imposed: suspension of meteorological and hydrological forecasting and warning operations from 06 to 12 months or confiscation of equipment and means used to commit the violations.

In addition, the following remedial measures must be implemented:

- Mandatory recall of issued bulletins;- Mandatory application for re-issuance of the permit;- Mandatory surrender of any illegal profits gained;- Mandatory destruction of bulletins and publications obtained.

Decree 84/2017/ND-CP takes effect from September 10, 2017.
