What are the professions of college-level air traffic control? (Illustration)
According to Circular 56/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, college-level air traffic control is an occupation performed by air traffic controllers working on the ground. They control flight activities of airplanes on air routes, at airport areas, and in airspace controlled by Vietnam, from the moment the aircraft leaves the parking position, taxis to the runway for departure until it lands and taxis into the parking position at the destination airport. They assist the flight crew in emergency situations, provide necessary information to ensure the safety and efficiency of flights, and notify other related air traffic service providers of information received from the flight crew, meeting level 5 requirements in the Vietnamese national qualification framework.
To ensure a safe, orderly, and efficient air traffic system, air traffic controllers frequently provide the flight crew with necessary commands, information, and advisories on flight altitude, speed, route, weather conditions, and other related flight activities to prevent collisions between aircraft in flight, between aircraft operating on the ground, and between aircraft and obstacles in airport areas.
Air traffic control is an international profession; therefore, air traffic controllers not only must comply with all requirements and regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam but also follow recommendations and practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Air traffic controllers must manage flights efficiently to achieve the highest effectiveness. At airports serving only civilian purposes, the job is not simple, and it becomes even more complex at airports used for both military and civilian purposes.
Air traffic control professionals work at control towers (TWR), approach control facilities (APP), area control centers (ACC), flight procedure departments, short-wave ground-to-air communication departments, flight coordination notification departments of the Air Traffic Management Corporation, airports, airlines, etc.
Minimum volume of knowledge: 2,325 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).
Details are available in Circular 56/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, effective from February 10, 2019.
