Under Circular 56/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, college-level environment engineering in Vietnam is a discipline or profession that involves tasks in the environmental sector such as Operating wastewater treatment plants; maintaining wastewater treatment plants; operating water supply treatment plants; maintaining water supply treatment plants; operating exhaust gas treatment plants; maintaining exhaust gas treatment plants; operating solid waste treatment plants; maintaining solid waste treatment plants; handling incidents to achieve quality productivity and ensure safety standards, meeting the requirements for level 5 in Vietnamese Qualifications Framework.
Graduates from college-level environment engineering in Vietnam must acquire the following skills:
- Identify positions, investigate, and evaluate wastewater, water supply, exhaust gases, and solid waste environments;
- Collect and review information and data before fieldwork and implement tasks to investigate and assess wastewater, water supply, exhaust gases, and solid waste environments;
- Develop a comprehensive planning for basic investigation of wastewater, water supply, exhaust gases, and solid waste;
- Summarize, adjust, and process information and data collected after field investigations and field investigation results according to the evaluation contents;
- Organize and conduct the construction, management, and operation of environmental monitoring works for wastewater, water supply, exhaust gases, and solid waste;
- Analyze and evaluate the current status and trends of wastewater, water supply, exhaust gases, and solid waste environments;
- Operate and handle waste treatment works for wastewater, water supply, exhaust gases, and solid waste correctly in order;
- Maintain wastewater, water supply, exhaust gases, and solid waste treatment works;
- Detect and promptly report abnormal phenomena and incidents occurring during the operation of the works;
- Read and draft various types of design drawings for entire or single-item water resource exploitation works of small and medium sizes;
- Measure, check, and accurately evaluate the status of items in the environmental treatment system works;
- Use modern support tools such as computer software, measuring devices, and experimental tools to be able to study or follow higher-level programs;
- Use basic information technology as required, exploit, process, and apply information technology in the professional work of the field;
- Use basic foreign languages, reaching level 2/6 in Vietnam’s Foreign Language Competency Framework; apply foreign languages in the professional work of the field.
