The Law on Food Safety 2010 of Vietnam provides for rights and obligations of organizations and individuals in assuring food safety: conditions for assuring safety of foods and food production, trading, import and export; etc. So, what are the rights and obligations of food consumers in assuring food safety?
According to Article 9 of the Law on Food Safety 2010 of Vietnam, food consumers have the following rights:
One, to be provided with truthful information on food safety, and appropriate instructions for food use. transportation, storage, preservation, selection and use; to be informed of risks of food to become unsafe and methods of risk prevention upon receiving warnings;
Two, to request food producers and traders to protect their interests under law;
Three, to request consumer interest protection organizations to protect their lawful rights and interests under the law on consumer interest protection;
Four, to lodge complaints and denunciations and file lawsuits under law;
Five, to get compensation under law for their damage caused by consumption of unsafe food.
Besides, food consumers have the following obligations:
Firstly, to fully comply with regulations and guidance of food producers and traders on food safety in transportation, storage, preservation and use:
Secondly, to promptly provide information on risks of food to become unsafe upon detecting these risks, and report food poisonings and food-home diseases to the nearest People's Committee, medical examination and treatment establishments, competent state agencies and food producers and traders:
Thirdly, to comply with the law on environmental protection in the course of food consumption.
