Recently, the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam has issued Circular 65/2014/TT-BGTVT on the economic-technical norms for public buses.
Vietnam: Periodic maintenance contents for public buses after every 12,000 km (illustrative image)
Circular 65/2014/TT-BGTVT specifies the periodic maintenance contents for public buses after every 12,000 km in Vietnam as follows:
- Preparing (maintenance records, materials, tools, equipment, task assignment, and production organization);
- Cleaning the vehicle (interior, exterior, undercarriage) and the vehicle's main components;
- Inspecting the overall technical condition of the vehicle;
- Jacking up and removing the front 2 tires, disassembling hub assemblies for cleaning. Inspecting bearings, seals, and brake pads, scraping clean the brake drums, applying new grease, complete assembly;
- Jacking up and removing the rear 2 tires, disassembling hub assemblies for cleaning. Inspecting bearings, seals, and brake pads, scraping clean the brake drums, applying new grease, completing assembly;
- Checking and adjusting valve clearance;
- Disassembling and cleaning, replacing engine oil filters, air filters (replacing filter elements as per norms), complete assembly;
- Draining fuel tank sediments, and replacing fuel filter elements. Inspecting and maintaining the fuel system;
- Inspecting and tightening radiator, replacing coolant, inspecting and adjusting fan belt tension;
- Inspecting and adjusting the clutch: air bleeding, adjusting free pedal travel, adjusting the clutch rod;
- Inspecting and tightening the flange bolts, replacing universal joints when due or faulty;
- Tightening shock absorber bolts, fastening spindle, and adjusting leaf spring as needed;
- Inspecting and adjusting steering wheel play, front-wheel toe, steering link play (both horizontal and vertical), tightening, checking steering system oil (supplementing if needed). Replacing when due;
- Replacing gearbox oil or adding as per regulations, tightening gearbox bolts. Replacing rear axle oil, or supplementing;
- Inspecting brake system operations (pneumatic system, vacuum system, pipelines, etc.), draining dirt from air tanks, inspecting pressure control valves, checking brake fluid level, air bleeding. Adjusting, supplementing, and replacing when due;
- Inspecting battery fluid levels, adding distilled water, charging if necessary, cleaning battery surfaces, vent holes, cleaning terminals, applying grease, fastening tightly;
- Disassembling and maintaining alternators, starters, cleaning commutators, inspecting brushes, replacing when due;
- Inspecting the operation of the entire electrical system on the vehicle such as meters, lights, horns, wipers, pneumatic door system, etc.;
- Inspecting and tightening engine mounts, lubricating door joints; inspecting door opening/closing system; checking and tightening seat mounts; lubricating door hinges and latches, etc.;
- Inspecting tire wear, imbalance, abnormal wear, air pressure, inflating if needed, and rotating tires as required. If tires show unusual wear, inspect related systems;
- Inspecting the normal operation of the entire air-conditioning system: power switch, cooling switch, fan switch, coolness, air output, and indicator lights on the dashboard; diagnosing unusual faults in the system;
- Disassembling and cleaning air filter meshes, inspecting and cleaning air vents. Assembling detailed parts and components;
- Disassembling, inspecting, and maintaining hot and cold air fan motors. Replacing fan brushes when worn or due. Assembling detailed parts;
- Cleaning hot and cold air radiators;
- Inspecting gas leaks at joints, and cleaning pipes;
- Inspecting the normal operation of the air compressor; disassembling, inspecting, and maintaining the magnetic clutch of the air compressor, checking gas, and lubricating oil shortages; supplementing gas and lubricating oil for air compressors if needed; assembling detailed parts;
- Inspecting normal system operation, adjusting as per technical requirements;
- Greasing all lubricating nipples;
- Road testing to check maintenance quality and other technical requirements after maintenance;
- Cleaning the vehicle, and handing it over.
