Vietnam: Discriminating between natural and adopted children in any form is strictly prohibited

The Law on Adoption 2010 of Vietnam provides the principles and conditions for adoption; rights and obligations of adoptive parents, adopted children and natural parents; and responsibilities of agencies and organizations in adoption, etc. There are prohibited acts specified in this Law.

Specifically, according to Article 13 of the Law on Adoption 2010 of Vietnam, prohibited acts include:

First, taking advantage of adoption for self-seeking purposes, exploiting the working capacity, sexually abusing, abducting or trafficking in children.

Second, forging papers for adoption settlement.

Third, discriminating between natural and adopted children.

Fourth, taking advantage of adoption to violate the population law.

Fifth, abusing the adoption by war invalids, persons with meritorious services to the revolution or ethnic minority persons to enjoy state incentives.

Sixth, grandparents adopting their grandchildren or siblings adopting one another.

Seventh, taking advantage of adoption to act against the law or fine national customs, practices, ethics or cultural traditions.

The Law on Adoption 2010 of Vietnam was promulgated on June 17, 2010 and officially effective from January 01, 2011.
