On December 30, 2024, the Minister of Education and Training of Vietnam issued Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT regarding the Regulations on Admission to Lower Secondary Schools and Upper Secondary Schools which includes provisions for subjects eligible to receive priority and encouragement points for the grade 10 entrance exam in 2025.

According to Clause 2, Article 14 of the Regulation issued with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT, priority points are added to the total admission score, calculated on a 10-point scale for each exam subject.

Within this, Group 1 receives an addition of 2.0 points; Group 2 receives an addition of 1.5 points; Group 3 receives an addition of 1.0 point. Specifically as follows:

(1) Group 1 subjects:

- Children of martyrs;

- Children of war invalids with 81% or more loss of working capacity;

- Children of sick soldiers with 81% or more loss of working capacity;

- Children of persons granted a "Certificate of entitlement to policies like war invalids" where the recipient's working capacity is reduced by 81% or more.

- Children of those who participated in the resistance and were exposed to toxic chemicals;

- Children of those who took part in revolutionary activities before January 1, 1945;

- Children of those who took part in revolutionary activities from January 1, 1945, to the uprising in August 1945.

(2) Group 2 subjects:

- Children of Heroes of the Armed Forces, children of Labor Heroes, children of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers;

- Children of war invalids with less than 81% loss of working capacity;

- Children of sick soldiers with less than 81% loss of working capacity;

- Children of persons granted a "Certificate of entitlement to policies like war invalids" where the recipient's working capacity is reduced by less than 81%.

(3) Group 3 subjects:

- Persons with either parent belonging to ethnic minorities;

- Ethnic minorities;

- Students in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions.

Subjects eligible for encouragement points for the grade 10 entrance exam in 2025 are lower secondary students who achieve provincial-level awards, organized by the Department of Education and Training or in cooperation with provincial departments and authorities, for competitions organized on a national scale, as specified in point d, clause 1 of Article 14 of the Regulation issued with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT.

Here, encouragement points are added to the total admission score, calculated on a 10-point scale for each exam subject or test. First prize recipients receive an addition of 1.5 points; second prize, 1.0 point; third prize, 0.5 point.

03 official exam subjects for grade 10 in 2025

According to Clause 1, Article 13 of the Regulation issued with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT, the official exam subjects for grade 10 in 2025 will include Mathematics, Literature, and a third subject or test chosen by the Department of Education and Training from 01 (one) of 02 (two) options:

+ The third subject is selected from subjects that are evaluated by scores in the lower secondary education program, ensuring that the same third subject is not chosen for more than 03 (three) consecutive years;

+ The third test is a combined test from several subjects chosen from subjects that are evaluated by scores in the lower secondary education program.

For upper secondary schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, colleges, and research institutes that organize separate entrance exams, the third subject or test is directly managed and chosen by the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, colleges, and research institutes.

- The third subject or test is announced after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 every year.
