Recently, the Ministry of Health issued Circular 16/2018/TT-BYT regulating infection control in medical examination and treatment facilities.
Management and handling of medical equipment, tools, and fabrics are specified in detail in Circular 16:
- Regarding medical equipment and tools:- Centralized management and handling of medical tools, ensuring the safe and quality-controlled reuse of medical equipment and tools;- Preservation of medical equipment and tools after processing to ensure they are sterile before use on patients;- Inspection and supervision of compliance with regulations on the management and handling of medical equipment and tools in departments and rooms.- Regarding medical fabrics:- Providing fabrics for patients and medical staff daily and as needed;- Centralized processing of fabrics in the laundry area. Contaminated fabrics, fabrics with blood, and biological secretions must be handled separately to ensure safety;- Storing processed fabrics in cabinets, ensuring they are clean and sterile, and transporting them separately using specialized vehicles;- Quality control with frequent inspection and supervision of fabric handling processes;- Management and handling staff must have professional knowledge in handling medical fabrics;- Arranging centralized washing, drying, or airing areas for patients' families.
