Products that are Organic but Do Not Meet Quality Standards Will be Recalled

Recently, the Government of Vietnam issued Decree 109/2018/ND-CP providing regulations on organic agriculture. These regulations cover the production, certification, labeling, logo, traceability, business operations, state inspection of organic agricultural products, and policies to encourage the development of organic agricultural production.

According to Decree 109, organic products must be recalled when they fail to meet quality standards under the following specific circumstances:

- Labeling or logo is not conformable;- Expired products are still sold on the market;- Non-compliance with organic agricultural standards or corresponding regulations and technical standards;- Damaged during storage, transportation, or business operations;- Contains prohibited substances or contaminants exceeding regulatory limits;- Imported products are notified by competent authorities of the exporting country, other countries, or international organizations to contain contaminants harmful to human health and life.

Decree 109/2018/ND-CP took effect on October 15, 2018.
