In the work related to overseas Vietnamese, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has the following duties and powers:

- Preside over, cooperate with relevant agencies and organizations to research, aggregate the situation, propose and implement policies related to overseas Vietnamese;- Preside over, cooperate with relevant agencies and organizations to guide and inspect the implementation of work related to overseas Vietnamese;- Organize, support, and guide overseas Vietnamese organizations and individuals in their relationships with the country and vice versa, contributing to the development of the country;- Support and create favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to stabilize their lives, integrate into the social life of the host country, and preserve the Vietnamese national cultural identity.
