Medical Facilities with 150 Beds or More Must Have an Infection Control System

Circular 16/2018/TT-BYT has been issued by the Ministry of Health providing regulations on infection control in healthcare facilities. Circular 16 is effective from October 1, 2018, replacing Circular 18/2009/TT-BYT.

The infection control system is regulated by Circular 16 as follows:

- Depending on the bed capacity, medical examination and treatment facilities must establish an infection control system that includes:- Infection Control Council.- Infection Control Department or Unit.- Infection Control Network.- Medical examination and treatment facilities with 150 or more planned beds must organize an infection control system as stipulated above.- Medical examination and treatment facilities with fewer than 150 planned beds must have at least an infection control unit under the integrated planning department, an infection control network, and a full-time infection control officer who has graduated from a health-related field and holds a certificate, diploma, or degree in infection control.- Medical examination and treatment facilities without inpatient beds must at a minimum assign one person in charge of infection control.
