Guidelines for Determining Technical Grades and Inland Waterway Transportation Operations

On December 29, 2016, the Ministry of Transport issued Circular 46/2016/TT-BGTVT stipulating technical standards for inland waterways.

The determination of technical levels and the exploitation of inland waterway transportation is regulated by Circular 46/2016/TT-BGTVT as follows:

- The technical level of inland waterways is determined based on:- The national standard TCVN 5664:2009 on Technical Classification of Inland Waterways;- The inland waterway infrastructure development plan approved by the competent authority;- The current state of inland waterways.- The dimensions of inland waterways corresponding to each technical level of inland waterways are stipulated in Appendix 1 of Circular 46/2016/TT-BGTVT.- The technical levels of national inland waterway routes stipulated in Appendix 2 of Circular 46/2016/TT-BGTVT are implemented according to Appendix 2 of Circular 15/2016/TT-BGTVT.- Organizations and individuals exploiting inland waterway transportation shall base their decisions to deploy vehicles on inland waterways on the technical levels and inland waterway flow notifications.
