Guidance on Preparation and Emergency Provision for Anaphylaxis

On December 29, 2017, the Ministry of Health issued Circular 51/2017/TT-BYT guiding the prevention, diagnosis, and management of anaphylaxis.

According to the provisions in Circular 51, the preparation and emergency preparedness for anaphylaxis are guided as follows:

- Adrenaline is the essential and most important drug available for anaphylactic emergency use.- In places where drugs are used, injection vehicles must be equipped and ready with an anaphylactic emergency kit. The composition of the anaphylactic emergency kit.- Medical examination and treatment facilities must have an anaphylactic emergency kit and medical equipment.- Doctors and medical staff must be proficient in the knowledge and practice of anaphylactic emergency according to the protocol.- Public transportation means such as airplanes, ships, and trains need to be equipped with an anaphylactic emergency kit.

In addition, the handling of anaphylaxis is also guided by Circular 51 as follows:

- Adrenaline is the most important drug to inject intramuscularly immediately for a person with anaphylaxis when diagnosed with anaphylaxis from grade II onwards.- Doctors, physicians, nurses, midwives, and technicians must handle anaphylactic emergencies.- For individuals with a history of anaphylaxis who carry adrenaline, patients or other non-medical personnel are permitted to use the drug in emergency cases for intramuscular emergency injection when no medical personnel are present.
