Draft Population Law 2020 has promulgated several regulations regarding assisting minors in Vietnam in preventing unintended pregnancies.
Enable ways of prevention of unintended pregnancy for minors in Vietnam
Article 37 of the Draft Law on Population 2020 stipulates the prevention of unwanted pregnancy for minors and youth in Vietnam as follows:
- Minors and youth shall be guided on measures to prevent unwanted pregnancy and have accessible means of contraception suitable for their age; their health information and private details recorded in medical records should be kept confidential.
- Medical facilities specializing in obstetrics and institutions providing population services are responsible for counseling on gender, sexual health, reproductive health, and contraception for minors and youth; offering safe, quality, friendly, diverse, convenient, and lawful family planning services; and ensuring no stigma or discrimination against those in need of contraception.
- Families and schools are responsible for:
- Educating on gender and methods to prevent unwanted pregnancy for minors and youth appropriate for their age;
- Providing information, education, communication, and counseling on avoiding early and unsafe sexual intercourse and the consequences of unwanted pregnancy for minors and youth;
- Guiding the use of measures to prevent unwanted pregnancy for minors and youth appropriate for their age.
Thus, the state facilitates the education on gender and methods to prevent unwanted pregnancy for minors and youth. The content of information, education, communication, and counseling on avoiding early and unsafe sexual intercourse and the adverse effects of unwanted pregnancy for minors and youth is provided.
