The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is an agency of the Government of Vietnam that performs the function of state management in foreign affairs. In terms of state consular work, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has the following duties and powers:
- Protect the interests of the State, the rights and legitimate interests of Vietnamese citizens and legal entities abroad in accordance with Vietnamese law and international law;- Conduct consular legalization, consular certification, judicial mandate, civil status, nationality, and immigration matters for Vietnamese citizens and foreigners under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in accordance with the law;- Manage and direct the consular work of the foreign affairs agencies of provinces and centrally governed cities in accordance with the law;- Carry out other consular work as stipulated by law, assigned by the Government of Vietnam, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam, and international treaties to which Vietnam is a member.
