Overseas representative missions of Vietnam are agencies performing the functions of officially representing the Vietnamese State in its relations with receiving countries, territories and international organizations and uniformly managing foreign activities. Representative missions include diplomatic representative missions, consular representative missions and representative missions at international organizations.
The Law on Overseas Representative Missions of Vietnam 2009 stipulates positions at representative missions, including:
1. Diplomatic posts include:
- Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary;
- Ambassador;
- Minister;
- Minister-counselor:
- Counselor;
- First secretary;
- Second secretary;
- Third secretary;
- Attache.
2. Consular posts include:
- Consul general;
- Deputy-consul general;
- Consul;
- Deputy consul;
- Consular attache.
