In recent years, organic agricultural production activities have witnessed strong developments in the nationwide market, necessitating and requiring a specific mechanism to regulate these activities. On August 29, 2018, the Government of Vietnam issued Decree 109/2018/ND-CP on organic agriculture.
Decree 109 establishes the principles of organic agricultural production, including:
- Management of resources (including soil, water, air) according to systemic and ecological principles with a long-term vision;- No use of synthetic chemical materials at all stages of the production chain;- No use of genetically modified technology, radiation, and other harmful technologies for organic production;- Responsible treatment of animals and plants and enhancement of their natural health;- Organic products must be certified by a third party according to national standards (TCVN) on organic agriculture or international standards, regional standards, and foreign standards applicable in organic product production.
