04 Forms of Discipline for Students

Circular 10 stipulates that students whose conduct violations vary by nature, degree, and consequences of the violations may be warned, criticized, or subject to one of the following disciplinary actions:

- Reprimand: Applicable to students who commit a first-time violation but to a minor extent;- Warning: Applicable to students who have been reprimanded and re-offend, or who violate rules to a minor extent but do so frequently, or who commit a relatively serious first-time violation;- Temporary suspension from studies: Applicable to students who continue to violate the rules while under warning, or who commit serious violations of the regulations on student behavior; students who break the law and are sentenced to imprisonment with probation. Depending on the specific case, the head of the higher education institution will decide on the suspension period based on the training regulations: suspension for one semester, suspension for one academic year, or suspension for the duration of the probation period.- Expulsion: Applicable to students who continue to violate the rules while under temporary suspension from studies, or commit a first-time violation that is particularly serious, impacting the higher education institution and society negatively; students who break the law and are sentenced to imprisonment.

Note that disciplinary actions from warnings and up must be recorded in the student's management file and notified to the student's family. In cases where students are disciplined with temporary suspension from studies or expulsion, the higher education institution must send notifications to local authorities and the student's family for coordinated management and education.
