On July 01, 2021, the Law on amendments to the Law on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS 2020will officially take effect.
According to Clause 12 Article 1 of the Law on amendments to the Law on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS 2020 of Vietnam, 06 following subjects are provided with free of charge antiretroviral medicines:
- Persons exposed to HIV or infected with HIV due to occupational accidents;
- Persons exposed to HIV or infected with HIV due to risks of medical procedures;
- Persons exposed to HIV or infected with HIV during their performance of search and rescue tasks; (completely new provision)
- Women and children given treatment indications for preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV;
- Children aged under 06 and infected with HIV;
- Persons infected with HIV at correctional institutions, reform schools, rehabilitation centers, social protection facilities, prisons and detention centers (completely new provision)
In comparison with provisions of Clause 2 Article 39 of the Law on HIV/AIDS prevention and control 2006 of Vietnam, the Law on amendments to the Law on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS 2020 has added 02 more cases of being given free antiretroviral medicines.
Moreover, the Law on amendments to the Law on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS 2020 also give priority of access to information and education about HIV/AIDS prevention and control to entities prescribed in Point b, c, d, dd, e and g Clause 2 Article 11, to be specific:
- Drug users;
- Prostitutes;
- People having same-sex relationship;
- Transgender people;
- etc.
